Aisha Miniature Revealed / Pledge Manager Announced / Contest Results
over 8 years ago – Sun, Dec 06, 2015 at 10:42:07 PM

Aisha, the Transmutation Witch

Our team’s talented sculptor Chris Gabrish has been busy working on Aisha. The design is mostly complete, so we thought you'd like to see her miniature so far... Isn’t she awesome? I can almost see the magical energy erupting from her hand, ready to rend the flesh of her enemies.

Announcing BackerKit, and a gentle reminder to add postal costs to your pledge

After extensive research and gathering of feedback, we’ve finalized our pledge manager plans. We will be using BackerKit for surveys, add-on management, digital downloads, etc. Frequent Kickstarter backers will likely be familiar with BackerKit, and our experiences with them have been very positive.

What does this mean for you? First, it means that the finalization of your orders and the gathering of required details for each backer will be very smooth. It also means that for a short period after the campaign you will be able to upgrade your pledge level or add on additional items, as well as automatically calculate and manage your postage costs.

Please note that you should still add known postal costs and add-ons now, because only money added now through the Kickstarter campaign will count toward stretch goals. Those goals are certainly within reach, especially if everyone pledges their full amounts now.

Our back of the napkin calculations indicate that only about 40% of the retail and exclusive tier backers have added the required postage to their pledges.

And remember, we are always happy to answer any questions, so keep them coming.

Perdition’s Mouth BGG contest results

You probably noticed that we recently ran a contest on BoardGameGeek to give away a few copies of Perdition’s Mouth.

Ukko and the team did a marvelous job of making it challenging - just like the game itself. We didn’t manage to get the insectoids to eat the failed entrants, which would have been even more thematic. We’ll try for that option next time.

Nevertheless, we’re happy to announce that the Grand Prize of one Kickstarter Exclusive Edition goes to: Valsim

Runners-up Gabriel Guerin & Artful Nudger will each receive a Retail Edition box.

Congratulates to the winners, and thank you to everyone who took part in the competition.

New pledge tier
over 8 years ago – Sat, Dec 05, 2015 at 09:20:24 PM

New Pledge Tier: The Six pack

Based on multiple backer requests, we are adding a new pledge level: the six-pack, where you can get six copies of the game for the price of five!

This works for any regular tier, as well as add-ons*. Just choose the 6-pack tier and pledge the appropriate amount as follows:

  • Retail 6-pack: $395
  • Kickstarter Exclusive 6-pack: $495
  • Bargain Bundle 6-pack: $800

Shipping such a large box gets expensive, so Kickstarter will require you to add the following for shipping when you choose this tier:

  • EU / US / Canada / Australia: $40 USD
  • Anywhere else: $75 USD

Shipping for add-ons remains the same as outlined in the main pricing section, so if you have any questions about the exact amount please contact us directly.

* 6-pack pricing for add-ons requires a 6-pack game purchase. The “Game Store Pack” backers should contact us directly for their add-on needs.

New coverage

Renowned Estonian game reviewer, Ove Hillep, known for his passion for games that are not dungeon crawls, took a look of Perdition’s Mouth - with surprising results (read the review in English / Estonian).

We have also received a brief italian preview by Il Gioco. While we can’t read Italian, we’re pretty sure it’s positive :)

Small Nest

The Small nest is a vicious, dangerous place, infested by many insectoids. They have produced a nest right before the exit, forcing you to find some means to destroy, displace or bypass it.

The Small Nest map comes with three campaign scenarios and two stand-alone scenarios for a quick skirmish. Watch your back or the Chi’leen will feast on your entrails.

P.S. If you look closely you’ll notice that we have changed the vertical axis to be numeric and the maps are actually 19” x 19”.

Videos, wound promo deck and last week!
over 8 years ago – Sat, Dec 05, 2015 at 02:18:05 PM

Kevin & Dan on SmarterBacker

Last night, while Timo and the core dev team were peacefully slumbering, Perdition's Mouth designer Kevin Wilson and editor Dan Hull did a brief interview with Daniel Zayas, who runs a great Kickstarter news site called Smarter Backer. In it you can hear them talk about the game and the campaign, as well as see the terrible paint colors Dan has been trying out for his home office.

One of our favorite reviewers, Lance Myxter (aka. UndeadViking) made an awesome video of Perdition’s Mouth with very good explanation!

The wound promo deck

We recently asked you, our awesome backers and fans, to come up with an idea for the special wound card that you all unlocked. We were so blown away by the cool and unique suggestions that we can’t resist implementing them all!

I've edited all of those to put them together into a promotional wound deck, which will feature the designer’s name or handle on each card. You deserve the credit, after all. Note that these wounds are actually more brutal than the ones that we’ve come up with (which is partly why we like them so much). So when you find your hero afflicted with Parasites, you’ll know who to curse.

We wish we could offer these for free, but that’s won’t be possible. However, since the cards share the same back design as the other ones in the game, and since you already did half the work for us, we are able to offer it as an add-on for only $5, which is the same as BGG will be eventually charging these promo cards. The deck contains all nine cards written out.

NOTE: The winning card design will still be included for free in all of the Kickstarter versions of the game as a bonus for your hard work in promoting PM.

Updated “what’s in the box” graphics

Based on backer feedback, we’ve updated the graphics on the Kickstarter page under “What’s in the box?” As always, we welcome your feedback.

13th card for each Hero deck is yours, Hideout details and a note from Adam Sadler
over 8 years ago – Fri, Dec 04, 2015 at 12:57:09 AM

Competition status

Wow! You did it in one day! The 13th card for every Hero deck is now yours. And it will be exclusive. We will not add that to any of the upcoming releases, so you can cherish the memory of this uphill battle, which we will still surely win.

I’m proud of our backers and our team. We’ve managed, despite the naysayers who have predicted doom upon our campaign. And we’re not going to stop here - I know there will more of us.

And as you were so quick, we thought that it’s appropriate to add a small extra bonus. We’ll be adding two extra treasures to the Hideout scenario (for a total of 18).

The Hideout

Neshilim, the deposed despot has spent recent months uncovering what led to his downfall. It was the damnable cult and their peasant rabble’s lust for change. Change? For good? What a waste of breath! No peasant would even know what “good” meant... yet they were the reason his colleagues now hung skewered on tall spikes, and he was on the run.

The Northern Vidal-Sis, in the vast open marshlands - where no one wanted to be, let alone live - had long sustained a small population of bandits, vagabonds, dissidents, and rabble from surrounding nations. Now and again those nations’ armies would try to hunt down the worst of them, only to inevitably fall to the bog itself. Clearing up the area had never worked out, despite repeated efforts.

It had taken weeks of tracking through the vast, smelly swamp to figure out which obscure hideout housed the cult among the random bandit groups. But he finally found it, and it was time to send a pigeon to that irritating halfling. Soon the cult would pay - one bit at a time.

"The Hideout" provides 5 scenarios, which are rather different from the Abyssal Rift main campaign. Should you manage to beat the cult, you'll secure a safe haven, at least for a time, allowing recovery and restocking. But the cult is relentless, so one day you might find your hideout being overrun. Never feel safe; remain vigilant.

Contents:

  • A new Hero, Neshilim (miniature, hero sheet, 12 card hero deck, 1 hero deck extra exclusive)
  • dual sided map (18" x 18")
  • 5 Scenarios
  • 18 Treasure cards
  • Cardboard tokens for all civilians
  • 6 obstacle tokens
  • Rule sheet
  • 2 additional Guard miniatures

Endorsement by Adam Sadler

(famous designer of Star Wars: X-wing miniatures game, Descent (2 ed.) and more recently Warhammer Quest card version)

Anyone who is familiar with my work probably knows that I like dungeon crawling board games. From my first game of HeroQuest to designing Descent Second Edition and Warhammer Quest: The Adventure Card Game, the dungeon crawl genre has played a large part in my gaming career. I discovered Perdition's Mouth through the artist who worked on the game, Jamie Noble (he also did some artwork for my band Lorenguard).

As a big fan of dungeon crawls, I'm always looking for new games with different takes on the genre. Perdition's Mouth: Abyssal Rift instantly caught my attention with the card-driven gameplay and the use of a rondel. Even though I usually love dice in my games, the removal of that reliance on luck in this game allows players to focus more on strategy and tactics. All of these things make Perdition's Mouth a welcome addition to any dungeon crawler's collection.

Brady and I are both excited to contribute a scenario to the game and we look forward to playing the final product!

Make sure you’ll have the Kickstarter edition with Witch’s grotto to gain the scenario by Adam & Brady Sadler! Please give a thumb to Adam.

New competition, translations and upgrades in SGs
over 8 years ago – Thu, Dec 03, 2015 at 05:40:21 AM

Dear backers,

The Day of Perdition is fast approaching and we need everyone’s help to prepare. We’ve been going through all of your marvelous feedback and found many grains of insight that we are implementing.

We’re hereby starting a new competition. The former 90k Stretch Goal, which adds a 13th cards for every deck, will be made available to every backer of at least the Retail tier IF you complete this challenge. These cards are all designed and our beta testers have been using them for about a year; so we know that they are awesome… and we’d like to make them a part of PM to further increase the value of backing now.

The competition will have two goals. If both goals are met, then these exclusives will be added to your pledges.

  •  Get total of 100+ thumbs on posts in the ‘select your wound’ thread on the actual wound descriptions. Vote here for the best wound card and/or suggest your own. This Kickstarter exclusive will be added to the game with the designer’s name printed on the card. Submit your best design and see if it’s voted as the most gruesome!
  • Get 300+ fans for Perdition’s Mouth has in BGG

Both goals need to be completed by Sunday, December 6th at 8:00 PM PST.

If these goals are not reached, we’ll make the 13th cards an add-on, because we’re replacing the 90k SG with something you’ve been asking for:

Dread priests are the highest known level in the cult hierarchy. PLUS two additional scenarios (one campaign, one standalone).

A lot of you have been asking for more miniatures and more scenarios – it’s the most asked-for addition. That’s why we’re improving the stretch goal. But we don’t want you to miss out on these additional Hero cards, so we’re giving you the opportunity to help the campaign as well as help the Heroes!

Spanish and Italian translations

We’ll be getting Spanish and Italian translations by end of January! Kudos to Federico Abellá and Fabio Piovesan who’ll be the translators.

Summoner’s Lair level preview

A few supporters are wondering if we have all the levels ready. We will be unveiling all the basic campaign levels within the last week of the campaign for your enjoyment and commentary.

Please note that the game is still undergoing very minor tweaking for balance and fun, as our play testers and the community continue their testing. But you will see that they are very much ready. Any comments or suggestions should go in this thread.

Here is the first level in the series:

A Summoner lives here and trains his pack of acolytes in the sacred art of squeezing life elixir out of their hapless victims. This is first level that has victims you can rescue.
